A heavily armed police personnel deployed from the Western Regional Police Command, are patrolling the Jomoro district capital, Half Assini, to protect life and property.

Superintendent John Ferguson Dzineku, the Jomoro District Police Commander, who made this known to the Ghana News Agency at Half-Assini. Said “about fifteen Policemen deployed to the town are from the Regional Formed Police Unit (FPU), Sekondi, who are assisting those in the town to maintain peace and order, following threats to the breech of the peace in the area by the NDC Party”.

Superintendent Dzineku said Intelligence report reaching him indicated that the NDC Constituency NDC Executives were preparing to embark on a demonstration against the DCE, Mr Daddieh, whose tenure of office ends this month.

He said the executives claimed that though the DCE has been removed from office, he was still using government vehicles, bungalow and other government properties.

He said situation could breach the peace in the area, and this required police reinforcement to ensure peace

According to the Police Command, the withdrawal of the Police will be determined by the situation on the ground.

The District Police Commander stated that if the DCE was still in office, the Constituency Chairman did not have the right to force him out.

He, therefore, insisted that the Police will “surely crash those who want to take the law into their own hands to disturb the peace of the area”.

He, however, urged the public not to be scared by the presence of the Police in the area, but should go on with their normal activities.

Superintendent Dzineku disclosed that the NDC Constituency Chairman, Mr Gideon Konibah, had been invited to Sekondi by the Regional Police Commander, DCOP Isaac Alex Quainoo, over the issue and the way forward.

According to the Police Commander, the DCE claimed that he had not been officially notified of his removal from office, and could not rely on the Social Media to leave office.

Mr James Beliah Benson, Jomoro Constituency Secretary of the NDC, said they had not planned any demonstration to remove the DCE from office.

According to Mr Benson, they only drew the attention of the police of the DCE’s continued stay in office, despite the announcement that his tenure of office had ended.
