The Ghana Police Service has announced it will soon operate its own University, as part of efforts in boosting the training programmes of the Service to enhance the security of the state.

According to the Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Alhassan, his outfit is currently in talks with the National Accreditation Board to convert the Ghana Police Command and Staff College at Winneba into a university.

Speaking at a passing out ceremony for some officers, the IGP said the University will serve the purpose of modern policing.

“It is our vision that sooner than later; this college will together with all our training institutions; get the required accreditation from the Accreditation Board so that it becomes the Ghana Police University College.

“The University will focus on excellence in enforcement training not only in Ghana but the whole of the sub-region. And with the can-do attitude that we’ve all pledged ourselves to, this will happen very soon,” Alhassan noted.
