National Organiser of the National Democratic Congress says the opposition New Patriotic Party cannot be trusted to take and implement critical decisions in the unlikely event they find themselves in government.

Kofi Adams maintains that the haphazard nature in which the botched affirmative action programme was handled by the party is a testament they are not ready to govern.

The NPP introduced a controversial policy aimed at maintaining or shoring up the number of women in Parliament and also to increase the number of Gas in some selected coastal areas in the Capital

As part of the policy, men were not supposed to contest seats held by 16 incumbent female MPs across the country.

Only Ga indigenes were also expected to contest in the selected Ga communities.

The policy received widespread criticisms forcing the party hierarchy to beat a quick retreat.

Flagbearer Nana Akufo-Addo and party Chairman Paul Afoko told Joy News shortly after the policy was reversed that the party is still committed to the affirmative action policy and has decided to take the matter up to the highest decision-making body for a more comprehensive action to be taken.

Even though the party has stand down the controversial policy its rivals in government have taken them to the cleaners describing the party as shoddy and indecisive.

Kofi Adams on Joy FM's news analysis programme Newsfile said  the affirmative action policy by the NPP was not well thought through.

Describing it as "kneejerk" and "tokenism" the aide to the NDC founder was even shocked that the party took the decision "without consulting the rank and file of the party."

He said the NPP has no credibility and "cannot be trusted to take critical decision if they come into power."

While conceding that his party has failed to fulfill the promise of appointing 40 per cent of women into government, he said it did not give the NPP the right to attempt to impose cheap,  illegal policies to win votes.

But the Director of Communications of the NPP Nana Akomea said Kofi Adams and his NDC are the last persons the NPP will take credibility lessons from.

"This is a government that has gone to IMF to tell the whole world they have no credibility and needed one from the IMF.

"This is a government which appoints people into office as ministers and even before the appointed persons move into office, they are reshuffled," he fired back.

He said the NPP demonstrated a high level of tolerance by listening to its rank and file and responding to their call.

He said with the number of women MPs shrinking from 25 to 16 at a time when seat in parliament has increased from 230 to 275 there was the need to introduce policies to ensure that women are not entirely exterminated from Parliament.

He said the policy on the Ga representation was also crucial because Gas have come under extreme, cultural, political, language pressures as a result of the decision by the country to adopt Accra as its capital and there was the need for an affirmative plan to address that.

He said even though the party has temporarily reversed the policy, they will reconsider it at the highest level of congress.
