75-year old GPRTU chairman wins fourth term

The election held at the regional capital, Wa recorded 58 valid votes out of which Mahamudu Iddrisu got 38 while his rival, Kuoro Abudu obtained 20.

A 75-year old Mahamudu Iddrisu has been elected Chairman of the Upper West regional Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) for the fourth time.

The election held at the regional capital, Wa recorded 58 valid votes out of which Mahamudu Iddrisu got 38 while his rival, Kuoro Abudu obtained 20.

He thanked the delegates and promised transparency and greater consultation adding that, one of them will take over in 2019 when he turns 79.

“You know me very well. Even though I am your leader you are the ones who are leading. I promise to consult you on any decision I want to take”, he said.

Voting lasted for an hour. The election was held under heavy security from the police and the military.

Other positions up for grabs were the 1st and 2nd Regional Trustees and vice chairman.

National Chairman of GPRTU, Alhaji Yaw Manu tasked the new executives to work together in the interest of the Union.

“If we divide ourselves the enemies will get us” the National Chairman stressed.
