The Eastern Regional capital of Koforidua has been hit with a shortage of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) as domestic and commercial users are finding it difficult to obtain enough quantities of the product.

Eastern Regional correspondent, Kwame Appiah Kubi reports of long winding queues of taxis and individuals at some fuel stations within Koforidua.

Some drivers who spoke to Citi News also expressed their frustration at the development.

“We are really suffering here, it is not easy at all, and some of the drivers are even fighting just because they cannot get some of the gas. We even drove to Suhum in to get some. Currently we are considering going to Nsawam where we hope we can get some of the gas to buy,” one driver remarked.

Another driver also lamented, “I have been here since morning yet I have not been able to get some of the gas to buy. They sold for a while and run out of supply.” Similarly the shortage has hit parts of the national capital, Accra. Residents are struggling to find gas for personal and commercial use.

A visit to some gas stations in Accra confirmed there has been scarcity of gas since Monday. Speaking to Emmanuel Yaw Marfo who works at a gas station at Awudome, he confirmed they have not been able to re-stock their tanks because their suppliers are unable to supply.

“Gas has been in short supply since Monday here in Accra. There are some places you will get some to buy but drivers have to form long queues. Last week we got only one tanker of supply”. It is unclear yet what may be accounting for the shortage.
