Nigerian female drug trafficker sentenced to death in Malaysia

A female Nigerian drug trafficker has been sentenced to death in Malaysia for flouting the country's laws.

Another Nigerian gets the death penalty.

Despite several warnings by the governments of Asian countries that smuggling drugs into their countries carry the death sentence, a 30-year-old female Nigerian student in Malaysia, Mary George Unazi, defied the orders to carry drugs into Malaysia and on apprehension, she has been slammed with the death sentence.

Unazi was sentenced to death by the Malaysian High Court on Thursday, May 14, 2015, after she was found guilty of trafficking 765.9gm of metamphetamine into that country.

She was nabbed at the KL International Airport (KLIA), on May 10, 2011.

The court's presiding judge, Datuk Ghazali Cha, while delivering his judgement, said all evidence brought against Unazi proved that she was indeed guilty of trafficking the banned substance, stressing that she had failed on her part to convince the court that the bag which contained the substance wasn't hers

Unazi was arrested at the baggage claim area at the international arrival hall of KLIA and charged under Section 39B(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 of Malaysia which carries a mandatory death penalty upon conviction.

In her defense, she claimed that the bag in which the drug was found did not belong to her though it was recorded in her name from its entry point.
