One man arrested in Old Tafo violence

The clashes was reported to have resulted in two deaths and many injured.

 

The suspect believed to be in his 20's was among 8 gun wielding youth who fired indiscriminately into the air in the presence of the police.

According to the Deputy Ashanti Regional Police Commander ACP Ampofo-Duko, the suspect attempted burning down a local church in the area but the security officials at the time rose to the occasion and got him arrested.

Some churches and a mosque have reportedly been attacked in the clashes at old Tafo in Kumasi in the Ashanti region.

Vehicular traffic in the area was brought to a standstill as a result of the riots.

A number of vehicles and other properties were also reportedly destoyed.

This prompted the security to imposed a curfew in the area following the clashes.

Meanwhile, the chief of Tafo, Nana Agyen Frimpong II, has condemned acts of vandalism carried out by rampaging Muslim youth in the community, on Wednesday, and urged the police to act decisively to rein in those who have chosen to live outside the law.
