MTN Ghana appoints Ghanaian CEO

Mr. Asante takes over from Serame Taukobong, who has resigned from the MTN group and heading to General Electric where he will be taking up a commercial role at group level for Africa

MTN Ghana, one of the leading telecommunication giants in the country, has appointed Ebenezer Asante as the new Chief Executive Officer.

Mr. Asante takes over from Serame Taukobong, who has resigned from the MTN group and heading to General Electric where he will be taking up a commercial role at group level for Africa.

Prior to his appointment, Mr. Asante was the CEO of MTN Rwanda.

Before joining MTN in 2008, he worked for 13 years with Unilever Ghana, where he held various positions, including serving as Country Manager for Zambia in 2005 and Customer Development Director, responsible for sales and customer development strategy and execution in 2006. He holds a BA degree (Hons) in Economics and Statistics from the University of Ghana, a Post Graduate Diploma in Management from Henley Management College, and was part of MTN’s Global Advancement Programme (GAP) in 2010.

In a statement announcing the appointment, MTN Group CEO Sifiso Dabengwa congratulated Ebenezer and said, “We know he will add tremendous value in his new role, not only to MTN Rwanda, but also to the MTN executive leadership team.”

His appointment takes effect from Friday, May 15, 2015.
