Ahead of an official visit by President John Mahama, authorities at the Nsawam maximum prisons have begun a massive transfer of prisoners from the prison to other penitentiaries across the country, a prisoner at the prisons has revealed.

The President after granting pardon to some 900 prisoners is billed is to visit the Nsawam prisons on Friday.

Speaking to Kasapa FM on condition of anonymity on Wednesday, an aggrieved prisoner said officials at the Nsawam prisons are resorting to all manner of schemes to look good when the President visits.

“They have started transferring some of the prisoners from here. I have seen them move some of my colleagues into heavy tracks out of the yard.

“They have also called some police prosecutors to come and pick those who are supposed to be in police custody so that the place will look tidy and spacious when the President arrives.

“They don’t want the President to see the real state of our conditions. It is not fair, they must let the President see what is happening here so that he can pay attention to our situation,” he stated.

The prison added that, the development is creating some tension between the inmates and the prison wardens.
