A marketing officer of Vodafone Ghana was allegedly shot dead by two unidentified armed robbers at his residence at Sakumono, near Jotasa Pharmacy, in the Greater Accra Region, on Wednesday.

The robbers, said to be wielding  pump-action gun, are believed to be the masterminds of another attack on some other residents at Vulcanizer, a suburb of Sakumono, an hour earlier.

The police gave the name of the deceased as Mr Ebo Panford- Quainoo, 30, of the Marketing Department of Vodafone Ghana head office in Accra.

His traumatised wife, who was also in the house, is said to be receiving treatment at an undisclosed health facility, apparently from trauma. She was not harmed by the robbers though. The two had been married for four months.

Indiscriminate shooting

Narrating the incident to the Daily Graphic, the Accra Regional Police Command Public Relations Officer, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Mrs Afia Tenge, said the police, in their preliminary investigations, established that the incident took place about 1:30 a.m. on Wednesday.

The police also found that the man was hit by a bullet while the robbers fired indiscriminately into the windows of his bedroom.

She said the deceased’s wife told the police that she and her husband returned home from work on Tuesday night and decided to pray in the hall before retiring to bed.

After the prayer, the wife said she slept in the hall “but at dawn she heard a loud noise from their bedroom, prompting her to rush there only to find her husband in a pool of blood.”

Mrs Tenge said the robbers rushed on her and “started ordering her to bring the money.”

The woman is said to have given the robbers an amount of GH¢150, which was all the money she had at the time, mobile phones, lap tops and other electronic gadgets after which the robbers fled.

It is said that Mr Ebo Panford had sold his car through an online platform recently and the robbers were demanding the proceeds.

No help from neighbours

According to Mrs Tenge, although the deceased’s wife tried to raise an alarm and called on some neighbours to help take her wounded husband to the hospital, “no help came”.

She said it was until later when the police patrol arrived at the scene that the victim was taken to the Police Hospital, in Accra, but he was pronounced dead on arrival.

In the course of investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of the Vodafone officer, it was found out that some residents at Vulcaniser, an area at Sakumono, had also been attacked in their compound house.

She said one of the victims, a pastor, name withheld, told the police that he was returning from church about 12 midnight, when two armed men followed him until he quickly entered his room and locked it up.

The pastor, she said, claimed the suspected robbers, who were wielding  a pump-action gun, fired into the room of the landlady of the house but no one was hurt.

‘‘We strongly suspect they were the same robbers who attacked the Vodafone worker in his residence,” Mrs Tenge remarked.

The Accra Regional Police Command, she said, had “activated intelligence while we continue to investigate to bring the perpetrators to book. We call on the public with information on the suspected robbers to voluntarily offer the information to the police.”
