When we were about to leave, two men, one district director and the PRO of the office, Mr. Dumfeh attacked us and said we should give them the letter because they realised that what we are saying is true; that the letter is fake.

Three teachers at Appia Kubi Junior High School in Atuna, a town in Jaman South were on Friday afternoon allegedly beaten and stoned by the Public relations officer, PRO of the District Education Office for questioning the legitimacy of a transfer letter given to them.

In an interview with Pulse.com.gh, one of the victims, Mr. Emmanuel Duah, who sustained several injuries said the incident happened after they realised that the transfer letter given them was a fake one.

"We are three teachers, we all had transfer letters that we have been transferred from our school to another place. The letters were done by one person but two different signatures. So we reported the issue to the district GNAT office, who asked us to go back and report the case to the regional office", he said.

However, the teachers, after having reported to the human resource manager of the regional office, who confirmed that the letters have been written by one person but two different signatures, decided to leave the premises to inform the new station they have been transferred to. But, they were attacked and prevented from doing so.

"When we were about to leave, two men, one district director and the PRO of the office, Mr. Dumfeh attacked us and said we should give them the letter because they realised that what we are saying is true; that the letter is fake. So the PRO decided to take the letters from us of which we disagreed. When we were about leaving, he started shouting...thief...thief, and threw stones at us. Everybody started chasing us. We were beaten heavily. So one man took me to the district police office to lodge an official complaint, where I was given a medical form to go to the hospital to be treated", Mr. Duah added.

Mr. Duah, who said teachers normally receive such fake transfer letters, called for a change and asked that he be provided with relief so he can go and teach elsewhere. He believed the law must deal with the perpetrators.

Meanwhile, the district police have begun investigations into the case.
