'GAF must disclose how much it spends on operations'

Ghana’s security sector scored ‘D’ for performing worse in the areas of finance, operations and procurement in a recent report by Transparency International.

Senior Advisor on Defense and Security at Transparency International, Sir Stewart Eldon said disclosing the cost of procurement of equipment and other operations by the military would enhance transparency in the security sector.

Sir Eldon was addressing the media after opening a workshop to commemorate International Leadership Day on Defense and Security.

His call comes on the back of reports of corruption within the military which the anti-graft body believed was undermining public trust in government and the armed forces, as well as posing a major threat to the success of operations.

The report, dubbed, “Government Defence Anti-Corruption Index (GI)” tackled the overall transparency in the military of 47 African countries with emphasis on risk of defence corruption while considering the political, financial, personnel, procurement and operations risks as well.
