Barack Obama’s vice-president Joe Biden had to drop out of the Democratic nomination race 20 years earlier after one of his speeches appeared to have been plagiarised. That speech involved unattributed portions of a speech given earlier by British politician Neil Kinnock.

Stephen Harper borrows from John Howard

The speechwriter of former Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper resigned after it emerged that he had copied a speech given by Australian Prime Minister John Howard in 2003. However, this was detected five years later forcing the resignation Owen Lippert, the speechwriter.
