‘No Bishop Obinim, no vote’ – Followers protest at Police HQ

Obinim was on Tuesday handcuffed and sent to the National Police Criminal Investigations Department, Accra for allegedly defrauding a man of GHC11.6 million.

Bishop Obinim was said to have demanded the said amount from a man whose name is not known yet and promised to assist him to collect GHC78,000 from a fetish priest, Okomfo Gyakpata.

But according to ASP Joseph Benefo Darkwa, Obinim after taking the GHC 11.6 million from the man failed to help him retrieve his money [GHC78 000] from the Okomfo.

Obinim who spent Tuesday night in the cells of the Criminal Investigations Department of the Ghana Police Service at the headquarters of the law enforcement agency in Accra was transferred to the Nima Police Station on Wednesday morning.

He has subsequently been transferred to the Criminal Investigations Department of the Ghana Police Service at the headquarters of the law enforcement agency in Accra.

Hundreds of his church members have since massed up at the Police headquarters to offer intercessory prayers for their founder and leader.

The members of his church are demanding his release, saying "No Obinim, No Vote".

Police have since dispersed the crowd with water cannons and batons, Pulse.com.gh reporter, Kwasi Gyamfi Asiedu has reported.
