We want to see evidence of payment -UTAG

Show us the proof of the payments

The University Teachers Association of Ghana said they will not call of the strike until they see evidence to prove the payment of their book and research allowance.

This followed an assurance by the Ministry of Education that it has initiated procedures to ensure the release and payment of the book and research allowances for the 2014/2015 academic year.

This statement came a day after UTAG declared a strike

The ministry said it had assured UTAG and POTAG, in a meeting held in June this year of its readiness to pay the book and research allowance, but blamed the delay on a request made from the Ministry of Finance and  the Auditor-General to audit the claims of the Institutions within the tertiary sector for the payment of the allowances.

UTAG national secretary Dr. Samuel Atintonu said "this is the first time we are hearing a letter has been sent by the ministry of education to the finance minister."

The education ministry by this statement is asking the UTAG members to go back to work, but UTAG wants more that assurance.

"Let's see the concrete thing. If you have anything concrete to show to UTAG we are there we want to see that and we want to hear from them." Dr. Atintonu said
