President John Mahama says Nelson Mandela remains his number one icon.  Speaking on  Accra Live PM,  RFI English Service's Paris Live PM recorded in Ghana, the president recounted his reaction the first time he met Nelson Mandela.

" One of the times i went to South Africa, I was minister of communications and President Mandela had just retired as president of South South. I was living in the Cape Sun Hotel." President Mahama said.

The President said after a meal with some of his colleague ministers  he decided to go back to his hotel.

"I walked to the lift pressed the button and i saw the lift coming down... i didn't know there was anybody in it... and then the lift stopped, the door opened and three people were in the lift walking out so i had to step aside for them to pass.
