According to Mr Asiedu Nketia, the wife of New Patriotic Party’s running mate, Dr Mahamudu Bawuma, is of Fulani descent. He believes pragmatic steps should be taken since sacking the Fulanis is not the solution the danger they pose to the community.

“If we say we are sacking all Fulanis from Ghana, do you know Dr Bawumia’s wife is a Fulani? So, it is not about the type of person you are. If you categorise them [Fulanis] and demand that they be sacked, you’ll end up, perhaps, sacking Dr Bawumia’s wife, too… So, it’s not about the fact that somebody is a Fulani. It’s about the fact that there is a conflict between crop farmers and animal farmers, which needs to be resolved,” he is quoted by classfmonline.com to have said on Accra FM, Wednesday.

“There’s no law that criminalises cattle herding in Ghana. …It’s a problem between crop farmers and animal farmers…we should find a nonpartisan solution to the problem,” he added.

On Tuesday, residence of Agogo and its environs took to the streets to register their displeasureat government’s failure to address the issue of the nomadic herdsmen.

According to the protesters, the demonstration is their last signal to resort to lawful means in drawing the attention of authorities to find a lasting solution to the problem.

The traditional council of the area last two months issued an ultimatum to the herdsmen to vacate the area by March 31 but residents argue that the Fulani herdsmen are still in the enclave destroying farms and tormenting farmers.
