Dzifa Attivor, addressing supporters of NDC at Ketu South in the Volta region, charged party supporters in the region vote for the NDC else some people from the region who have served as ministers under the NDC will be jailed.

Former Transport Minister, Dzifa Attivor

She mentioned two former NDC government officials, Victor Selormey and Dan Abodapki, as examples of NPP's persecution of Ewes.

“When the NPP came to power in 2001, a lot of our people were sent to prison; Victor Selormey, Dan Abordakpi, and so on, were imprisoned. Was it because no other persons committed crime in Ghana? But it was only Ewes that they jailed…. I want to entreat you not to do anything for Fiifi Kwetey and I  to go to prison. It lies with you all to ensure that no Ewe person goes to prison. So I am pleading with you to work hard and deliver the hundred and twenty thousand vote target for the party in the constituency,” she is quoted to have said.

But Prof Asante opines that her comment was in bad taste. He has called on the former minister to retract and apologise.

“She should come clean and apologise to our brothers and sisters in the Volta region for taking them for a ride. I think she should also apologise because she hasn’t helped the party she represents. If you want to give the impression that your party will shield you when you do something wrong and that it’s a different party that will deal with you, then you are not saying anything good about your party,” he said on Joy FM.

Prof Asante urged Ghanaians to conduct themselves in a manner that will not bring division.

“Let all political parties and all of us take a cue from this and ensure that we conduct our politics in a clean manner. Let’s make sure our politics is driven by policies than getting cheap votes,” he said.
