The government has described bribe allegations levelled against President John Mahama by the New Patriotic Party (NPP) as "concoction" which does not need further media coverage.

"I will not sustain the NPP and Mr Bugri Nabu's concoction," he said on Joy FM's Super Morning Show Friday.

The NPP on Thursday 29 November 2016 alleged that President Mahama and his brother Ibrahim Mahama tried bribing Mr Nabu to “tarnish Nana Addo as anti-Northern.”

Sheik Mustapha Hamid, the spokesperson of Nana Addo said the incident happened on Friday, October 28 when the NDC led by Ibrahim Mahama called the NPP northern Regional chairman, Bugri Naabu for a meeting.

He said the meeting took place in the house of Ibrahim Mahama, after 9 pm that Friday and in the meeting was Bugri Naabu, the president and his brother.

He alleged that Ibrahim Mahama offered Bugri an amount of 500,000 Ghana cedis and a V8 vehicle to ensure that Nana Addo is tagged as anti-Northern.

Asked where the president was on October 28, Omane Boamah said he was returning from the Eastern Region by road.

"In fact, that day was even when the rally at Akosombo where one of the chiefs had said something which I think even Nana Ansah Kwao raised some issues with," he said.

"It became a little bit controversial. That day it was a rally in the Eastern Region and we were returning from the region," he added.

But the Communications Director of the NPP, Nana Akomea, who was also on the show insisted that the president attempted to bribe Mr Nabu.

According to him, there is evidence to show that Mr Nabu was bribed, adding that the car bribe could easily be traced through the records of the car.

"If that happened the records will show that Bugri Naabu came to this place, he bought this car for this amount, this is the cheque he issued, and this is the receipt he received," he said.
