Dr Nduom the Ghanaian President who may never be

On Monday, October 10, 2016, the Chairperson of the Electoral Commission (EC) Charlotte Osei named Dr Nduom as one of the twelve presidential nominees who have been disqualified for various anomalies on the nomination forms.

In 2012, he contested again as President but this time on the ticket of a political party he founded  - the Progressive People’s Party. This time around too the EC did not find any anomalies in his nomination forms.

Then came 2016, where a lot more people had vowed to vote for him and at least increase his less than one percent results he recorded in 2012.

Dr Nduom since the beginning of the year has been very hopeful that his picture and party logo will feature on the 2016 presidential ballot. He has been campaigning vigorously since the beginning of 2016 and telling Ghanaians why he is the best person for the job.

Dr Nduom popularly referred to as ‘edzumawura’ keeps mentioning the need for more jobs to curb unemployment in the country. He always argued that he was the only person among the presidential nominees who could accomplish this considering his professional background.

However Dr Nduom earlier this year indicated that the upcoming December 2016 election will be his last and final try at the presidency.

But Ghanaians may not have the opportunity to recognise him as the best candidate for the job.

On Monday, October 10, 2016, the Chairperson of the Electoral Commission (EC) Charlotte Osei named Dr Nduom as one of the twelve presidential nominees who have been disqualified for various anomalies on the nomination forms.

The EC Chairperson said the matter of the possible forgery of the signature(s) would be referred to the Ghana Police Service and the Attorney General for investigation and prosecution.

Until the EC effects any change to what has been said already Ghanaians would not have the opportunity to ‘choose’ Dr Nduom.

What caused this tiny but costly mistake considering he has filled this forms twice before?

Dr Nduom's answer was that their mistake is an administrative one which can be resolved in a five-minutes meeting between himself and the returning officer at the EC headquarters who happens to be the Chairperson of the Electoral Commission.

Could it be that his mistakes in the previous years were overlooked?

Dr Nduom said he had filled nomination forms for two previous election years. How could he have made a mistake. He believes his experience in filling the forms would not allow him make mistakes.

What actually led him to allow Aseda (meaning thanks giving) to ‘thank’ him this way?

Dr Nduom does not believe his party member made a mistake. He still insist the anomaly mentioned by the EC is an administrative one which can be resolved amicably.

Will Dr Nduom really become the President who never was?

If Mrs Charlotte Osei fails to meet them as they have requested, and they lose a possible court case, and if Dr Nduom goes by his word then yes that is what it will be.
