Greenstreet storms Ashanti Region

CPP flagbearer begins tour of the Garden City.

The presidential nominee of the Convention People's Party (CPP) has begun a six day ‘intensive’ tour of the Ashanti Region.

As tradition demands, Ivor Kobina Greenstreet paid a courtesy call on the Kokofuhene, Barima Offe Akwasi Okogyeasuo II to officially inform him about his visit.

According to Greenstreet, the region is very important to the development of the country as its people possessed essential skills and abilities and stressed the CPP’s key policies for the country if it wins the November polls. He praised the region’s people for their entrepreneurial spirit.

The party of Ghana’s first president has historically campaigned about the enormous opportunities agriculture presents to the country’s economy. Previous nominees such as Abu Sakara (for the 2012 elections); a renowned agronomist, have preached food reliance for the country and this message continues ahead of this year’s general elections.

He talked about the potential of fruits such as almonds; which he says could revolutionise the country and that the region was best fit for this.

“With the seeming agronomic conditions necessary for the green gold of almond tree and the legendary entrepreneurial spirit of Asanteman, I see another cocoa revolution coming," he said.

The party’s other main policies include a push for the election of local government officials and jobs for the youth.

‘World Bank’ region

The region is considered the ‘world bank’ of the opposition New Patriotic Party as it consistently wins majority of votes. In the last elections, the CPP fell from third place to fifth place in the region managing a paltry 1,805 votes (representing 0.08 percent). The NPP won 1.5 million of votes representing 70 percent of total valid votes. Analysts say, the CPP has lost his position as the country’s third most popular party.
