Prof. Martey was speaking at the 16th General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana, at Abetifi, Kwahu, in the Eastern Region.

His comments came after the flagbearer of the NPP, Nana Akufo-Addo, had addressed the congregation, promising to establish an Office of Special Prosecutor, within the first six months of his administration.

“We will keep on praying for you [Akufo-Addo] and I assure you that for you calling Presby church into partnership, we will partner you to build Ghana,” Prof. Martey said. "Nana, I wish you well. Your seriousness and experience. You have said you’re a Christian, so stay in your faith and you will be an overcomer.”

As leader of the church, the Moderator has come under voracious attacks from the governing National Democratic Congress for his take on national issues.

He at one point called on ‘wise men’ to take over the leadership of the country, including describing the Kotoka International Airport as a “village airport.”

Responding to allegations that he is NPP following his hard-hitting comments, Prof. Martey sarcastically asked Akufo-Addo why he has not been given receipts for payment of dues.

“Already, the moderator of the Presby church has been branded that he is an NPP man. But I am yet, those who say [so], perhaps, they are paying my NPP dues and NPP, you have not brought me receipts that have been paid for you. I am yet to receive that, he said to laughter from the congregation.
