Security will ensure incident free elections - Interior Minister

He said the security agencies in the country have been equipped with personnel and logistics among others to ensure that the upcoming elections remain as peaceful as ever.

Mr Prosper Bani, the Minister of the Interior, has assured all Ghanaians of peaceful elections come December 7, 2016.

Speaking at the University of Ghana Legon during the SYNOD 2016 organised by the Global Evangelical Church, He urged Ghanaians to begin to have confidence in themselves “for the past six elections we haven’t seen any destructive violence, so what is your fear now?” He questioned the congregation.

The Minister assured that “the security services are very alert, all political party candidates and their running mates have been provided with police security and they have accepted. We are going step by step to the December elections and nothing will stop us.

“I urge all, especially the churches, to appreciate the confidence of the Government and that going forward there shall be no violence,” Mr Bani commented.

Meanwhile the moderator of the Global Evangelical Church, Rt Rev. Dr. S.K Ofori noted that the church also is committed to reaching out to the marginalized, underprivileged and the vulnerable in society with charitable social services and spiritual support, “we are grateful to presbyteries and ministries that extend hands of support to various prisons, the veteran association of Ghana and the Ho Leprosarium among others,” Dr. Ofori added.

Dr. Ofori also mentioned that the Global Evangelical Church championed an election peace campaign dubbed Global Walk Peace 2016 which brought together members of the church youth and opinion leaders and representatives of political parties in a street carnival to send the message of peaceful election home to all.

“We are grateful to all those who participated in Global Walk for Peace, especially the various political parties for the total commitment to peace in Ghana,” he emphasized.

He urged all Ghanaians to be peace conscious as “we all exercise our political franchise this year so that at the end of the day Ghana wins”.
