12 people in the NDC Ghanaians will miss

Felix Ofosu Kwakye's radiating smile even in the heat of matters and his sneer when he didn’t agree with another’s submission will never be lost on Ghanaians.

Pulse Ghana takes you through a list of some of their most notable personalities.

President Mahama: One of the people who will be missed dearly when the NDC walks out of the flagstaff house and the reins of government will be none other than the President, John Dramani Mahama.

Known for his infectious smile and humorous response to even the most intense of remarks, John Mahama’s absence will be hugely felt by both his party people and their main rivals, the New Patriotic Party. His beautiful family with whom he takes much pride will also be missed dearly especially his cute daughter, Farida.

John Asiedu Nketia: Despite still occupying the position of General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress, Mr. Asiedu Nketia will be missed. The party’s chief scribe will obviously continue to be hard on the incoming government but his taunting of their accusations while in power and his rebuttals will be etched deeply in the minds of many.

Nana Oye Lithur: Minister for Gender and Social Protection, lawyer Nana Oye Lithur was one of the ministers in the Mahama-led government who was bold and always in the news. A staunch human rights activist, her views on topical and controversial issues ranging from feminism down to the legalisation of gay rights will make one of the appointees in this government who will  not be forgotten after she has stepped away from the government.

Stan Dogbe: Considered as part of the 'babies with sharp teeth' - a description coined  by former Prez. Rawlings. Stan Xoese Dogbe, one of President Mahama’s right-hand men will be missed especially on social media. He is attributed to being the social media manager of the president’s accounts on various social media. Stan was also pointed out in the 59th independence brochure scandal where President Uhuru Kenyatta was labelled as the President of Ghana instead of Kenya among other clerical errors.

Dr. Omane Boamah:  Communications minister and one of the chief spokesperson of the Mahama administration, Dr. Edward Omane Boamah is another stalwart who will say goodbye to serving Ghana at the executive level until his party comes back to power.  A medical doctor by profession, Dr. Omane Boamah played key roles in both the Mills government and the outgoing one. He is considered one of the very hardworking ministers in the government. His support and praise for his leader is also another admirable attribute he’ll be taking with him.

First Lady Lordina Mahama: The wife of the president of the Republic despite not having an established role in her husband’s government nevertheless played a very crucial part. She acted as the mother of the nation and spearheaded several social issue campaigns that affected communities in Ghana. Mrs. Lordina Mahama’s love for charity and children has left an indelible mark on Ghanaians.

Dzifa Gomashie: Deputy Minister of Tourism and creative arts, Dzifa Abla Gomashie was very influential in the entertainment industry. As an actress, she related well with people in the industry and knew her way around several issues affecting these group of professionals. Despite, her shortcomings and the inability of the ministry to address a myriad of problems facing them, she’ll go down in history as one of the appointees who will be missed when their time is up.

Nii Lante Vanderpuije: After taking over the reins of power in the Youth and Sports ministry, Nii Lante sought to do the unthinkable, control Ghana’s football federation and this would start a row with the independent body that had caused Ghana our reputation at the international stage during the 2014 world cup and recorded our worst showing at the tournament.  His no-nonsense attitude and strict adherence to laws concerning football and other sports proved very effective in spite of not getting the body to kowtow to his whims and caprices. However, his brave act endeared him to many sports lovers in Ghana. His arrogance will surely not be missed but the way he handled the sports ministry is a great pointer for whoever occupies that position in 2017.

Dr Oko Vanderpuye: Accra mayor and another Vanderpuye who will be missed is the incoming member of parliament for Ablekuma south. Dr Vanderpuye’s revolutionary approach to Accra’s sanitation problems and hawking was remarkable however, he was stopped in his tracks by the late Prof. Mills thus his inability to implement the things he had seen whilst working in the U.S.  He was also partly blamed for the June 3rd Circle disaster and the poor drenching of the Odaw river. Even if he won’t be missed his motorcade might be!

Felix Ofosu Kwakye: Ostentatious, stylish, eloquent, confident  yet arrogant, these are the words that most Ghanaians would use to describe the young Felix Ofosu Kwakye who is the deputy minister for information. A fine communicator who sought to turn every conversation into the government’s favour, Felix’s radiating smile even in the heat of matters and his sneer when he didn’t agree with another’s submission will never be lost on Ghanaians. Hopefully, as he steps back, he could work on his not-so-perfect-sides.

Seth Terkper: Ghana’s economic woes and triumphs will always be on the lips of Ghanaians for centuries to come and so will the absence of Seth Terkper be felt when the NDC leaves office in 2017. A shrewd technocrat, Mr. Terkper was always ready to tell the truth just like the numbers said, a trait that scored points for his political opponents. His failure to salvage the cedi against the dollar amongst other economic policies was the point of discussion for several businesses.  Mr. Seth Terkper will be missed but not for too long especially if the economy takes a new turn.

Prosper Douglas Bani: the outgoing interior minister will be dearly missed especially for his continuous effort in ensuring peace before, during and after the 2016 general elections. His strict but appealing posture is something to linger on the minds of Ghanaians.
