Over 6,000 guests expected at Nana Addo's swearing-in ceremony

The ceremony will witness some heads of state, the diplomatic corps, members of Parliament and senior citizens.

The ceremony which would be held at the Independence square in Accra will witness some heads of state, the diplomatic corps, members of Parliament and senior citizens.

Spokesperson for the transition Team, Kojo Oppong-Nkrumah addressing the media said, "Currently, the invitations have gone out to the heads of states and the heads of government agencies that will be joining us for that day."

"The inauguration of the 7th Parliament of the 4th Republic will take place between 10:00pm and midnight on the night of the 6th January to the morning December and 7th January at the parliament house.

"About 6,000 guests are expected for the swearing-in of the President-elect and this includes Members of Parliament and all the other state organizers that are required for an event like this one," he said.

Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, will also take the oath of office as the Vice President of Ghana.

However, Kojo Oppong-Nkrumah said the transition Team has presented an interim report to Nana Akufo-Addo.

He said, "the interim report that we have provided for the president-elect essentially cover the basic bits of information we have received currently and most importantly some national security briefings between himself and his representative on the team responsible for national security, Mr. Albert Kan Dapaah."

Akufo-Addo defeated President Mahama by 53.8 percent to 44.4 percent.

Nana Addo promised to stifle corruption, get the economy going through tax cuts and business incentives and launch an industrial policy to turn Ghana into a regional processing and light-manufacturing centre.

He will appoint a public prosecutor to look into corruption but has hinted he will not go after senior figures in the previous administration, in the interests of a smooth transition.
