Consult us before taking decisions – Osafo Marfo tells outgoing NDC gov't

Osafo Marfo said the NPP had heard of late recruitments into the security services and also awards of contract after the election results was declared.

The former Finance Minister was speaking at the first meeting of both transition committees after they were inaugurated by President Mahama and president-elect Nana Akufo-Addo on Sunday (December 11).

“We have heard about on-going recruitment into the security services now, which we hope is not true. We’ve heard of conversion of temporary staff of political assistance and some of the staff we took on into permanent public servants. We’ve heard of award of new contracts after the election results was announced on the 9 of December. We’ve heard of procurement and sale of national assets after the results.”

He asked that in such cases the in-coming government should be consulted before decisions are taken. Since some of the decisions the out-going NDC government will take now may have a direct effect on their government when they assume power of January 7, 2017.

Osafo Marfo asked that the NDC consults the NPP is any decision it intends to take during the transition period.

“We do not want to believe that these allegations are true and therefore I’m asking the chief of staff that after election and the results have been declared and the change is not the government handing over to itself we need to be cautious, we need to be transparent, we need to be candid and we need to be factual. We are therefore appealing to our colleagues that within that period if there is anything that needs to be done, consultation must be done.”

On his part leader of the NDC’s transition team Julius Debrah said they will ensure this transition is the smoothest yet in the history of the country.

He also indicated that not all the handing over notes were ready and promised the rest will be made available by Monday, December 19, 2016.

“The good news is that as we speak now the handing over notes from the ministry of finance, ministry of lands, ministry of transport, chieftancy, food and agriculture, fisheries, interior and defence are ready. We will make sure the others that are left will also be ready by Monday.”
