The opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) has been advised to stop building its fortunes around its three-time flagbearer, Nana Akufo-Addo.

Kwesi Pratt is predicting doom for the NPP should they build its strategies, fortunes and future around 70-year-old Nana Addo.

The Managing Editor of the Insight Newspaper, Kwesi Pratt Jnr was of view that such practice will destroy the party.
“Any political party which builds its fortunes around one single individual is misguided and is likely to have many, many problems,” he said on Radio Gold over the weekend.
Mr. Pratt Jnr expressed disappointment in one of the leading members of the NPP, Appiah Minka for daring any party member who deems him or herself as bigger than Nana Addo to leave the party.

“Mr. Appiah Minka; a distinguished industrialist and indeed, a very loyal member of the New Patriotic Party… is saying that anybody in the NPP who thinks that he is bigger than Nana Akufo-Addo should leave that political party.
“Mr. Appiah is saying that today… Nana Akufo-Addo and the NPP are inseparable and that those who cannot accept that should leave the party,” he said.
According to Kwesi Pratt, this “raises the issue of democratic practice because if you are building the party around the personality, image and ideals of one person, what does it mean when the person is no longer able to perform? What does it mean?”
He indicated that the NPP flagbearer, Nana Akufo-Addo is 70 years old and is likely to be over 71 years old during the 2016 election therefore, “if the future and fortunes of your party is built this personality, what future does your party have?”
“I’m asking whether it makes sense for any political party to build its fortunes, to build its strategies around one person who is more than 70 years old.”

He nonetheless clarified that he is not “one of those people who believe that age should disqualify people from doing anything. I believe that young people die, old people die. Old people fall sick, babies fall sick and so on…”
