Match facts

Ghana

Ghana have not lost a home game since Cameroon shocked them with a 0-1 defeat at the semifinals of the 2008 Africa Cup of Nations. They have since gone 23 home matches without a defeat. (W19, D 4).

This is going to be Coach Avram Grant’s 16th game in charge as Black Stars head coach. In the 15 games already played under his watch, the Black Stars have won 9, drawn 4 and lost 2. In percentage wise he has won 60% of the total games played, which is fairly good.

The Black Stars last lost a competitive game in Avram Grant’s first international game in charge, when Senegal edged Ghana 2-1 at the AFCON 2015 held in Equatorial Guinea. Although lost the final after 120 minutes of play to Ivory Coast, in head to head terms it is considered as a draw.

Ghana are sitting on top of group H of the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, having won their 2 games, beating Mauritius and Rwanda 7-1 and 1-0, respectively.

Asamoah Gyan is the all-time top scorer for the Black Stars, with 49 goals, so a goal will send him to 50, but he would miss the game, after he pulled out of the Black Stars last training session due to injury.

Mozambique

The Mambas have won only 1 of their last 5 games. (L4, D 0)

They are without a point in the group H of the 2017 AFCON qualifiers, having suffered both home and away defeats in their two previous games.

Mozambique have won 6 away games in competitive fixtures. They last won against Comoros Island in 2011 in a World Cup qualifier.

Head to head

Ghana are yet to lose in their 5 ties against Mozambique. (W4, D1)

The first ever encounter between these nations took place in 1996 when Black Stars defeated the Mambas of Mozambique 2-0 in the 1996 Africa Cup of Nations staged in South Africa in a group D clash.

The last time Ghana came face to face against Namibia was a friendly game in 2004 and Black Stars skipper, Asamoah Gyan was the scorer of the lone goal.

In their three previous visits to Ghana, Mozambique have lost 2 and drawn 1.
