Nouri, 20, suffered “severe and permanent brain damage” after collapsing during a preseason friendly game in Austria.

Ajax said that doctors were “cautiously optimistic about his recovery” but he remains in hospital.

In a show of solidarity, Boateng - who has played for Milan and Spurs throughout his career, revealed that he will wear a jersey adorned with Nouri's name under his own for the duration of the season.

Nouri collapsed around 70 minutes into the pre-season friendly against German side Werder Bremen in Austria on Saturday.

He was treated by medics at the ground before being flown to hospital in a helicopter.

Nouri won the Player of the Year award for Jong Ajax, who play in the Jupiler League, last season.
