Christian Atsu wants the AFCON to be shifted from January to the period that the European leagues will be on break.

The Africa Cup of Nations is currently dominated by players plying their trade outside the continent especially in Europe.

And players featuring in the European league participate in the AFCON, whiles their leagues are on ongoing.

Atsu, who plays for Newcastle United in the English Championship has urged the organisers to do something about the period the competition is played, since it creates problems for the European based players.

“It is a worry to many players especially the foreign players, it affects us a lot,” he spoke to TV3.

“Most a times you lose your position when you go back to your Club, because someone will play if you are not around and if the person performance meaning you have to sit on the bench when you come back.”

“It is a big worry and I think CAF should do something about it.”
