Austin Jay Jay Okocha has tipped Ghana to win the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations to be staged in Gabon early next year.

Ghana have not won the continental showpiece since 1982 in Libya, despite playing in three different finals- 1992, 2010 and 20115.

Ghana have a core of the team that finished runners up to Ivory Coast in 2015 still available as they prepare for the next edition.

And speaking at a press conference organized as part of a series of programmes by StarTimes, the former Nigeria international has tagged Ghana as pre-tournament favourites of the 2017 AFCON.

''I have declared my support for the Black Stars since the Super Eagles will be absent in next years tournament, I will entreat the Black Stars to make all Ghanaians proud in next years tournament considering the long wait and they should focus on tournament despite their poor start to the 2018 World Cup campaign,'' he said.

The 2017 AFCON will start on 14th January and ends 5th February.
