Black Stars captain Asamoah Gyan has officially ruled himself out of the 2017 AFCON qualifier clash against Mozambique due to an injury.

Gyan picked up an injury during the Black Stars final training at the Accra Sports Stadium and he will be out of the duel against the OS Mambas.

“I felt something in my muscle, my middle sprint and I felt something in my muscle so I have to just stop. We had an MRI and the results show that there was a muscle strain, something which is not that serious.

“I thank God for that because I thought it was a tear, a tear can take like six weeks but according to the results it will take like two weeks or may be five to seven days. I will see how my body responds to the recovery and stuff and there are doubt, there might be a miracle but I don’t think I can play,” Gyan told Metro TV.

Gyan who has capped 95 times and scored 48 goals prior to the game was eyeing a 50 goal limit but he has to wait until he regains full fitness before achieving that feat.

After Thursday's duel, the Black Stars will play as guest to Mozambique three days’ later in Maputo.
