We are still in the race for the title - Michael Osei

Kotoko coach Michael Osei says his team are still in the Ghana Premier League title race and need to work hard.

Kotoko managed to hold Sekondi Hasaacas to a 1-1 draw on Sunday at the Sekondi stadium from an Amos Frimpong converted penalty in the 79th minute after Samuel Afful had sensationally given Hasaacas the lead five minutes earlier with a cheeky lob over.

The dropped points by the Porcupine Warriors has impeded their chase to the top spot as Wa All Stars posed a significant 1-0 away win at Bekwai to New Edubiase. The point difference has now moved from two to four after match day 26.

Michael Osei says he is hopeful Kotoko will have a good finish at the end of the season.

"I always have to get hope because we are still in the race so we need to work very hard and make sure that at the end of the season we get a good position."

The interim head coach for Kotoko was also satisfied with the one point he earned against Hasaacas. He concurred with the views that the three points at stake which would have helped Kotoko's title ambition had a similar importance for Hasaacas to aid them escape relegation. And Osei reckon that was the reason for the cagey game sold out on the day.

"That made the game very difficult for both sides because we wanted to climb up, they also wanted to stay in the league so it was very difficult game for both side.

Both teams did play very well, the commitment from both sides were ok. It was difficult game but I will say both teams displayed very well so one point for each team is ok."

Osei moreover stated that it's a big worry to him when his players are unable to maximize goal scoring opportunities.

"We always have to work on it, when the goals are not coming it's always difficult for every team so we need to always work very hard and make sure that we recover from that situation."
