French president to meet IOC chief in Lausanne

Olympic chief Thomas Bach, seen in June 2017, is set to meet with French President Emmanuel Macron

Macron, 39, will visit the Olympic Museum before attending an official dinner alongside International Olympic Committee president Bach on Monday night.

He will then join the Paris 2024 bid delegation on Tuesday during their presentation before the IOC.

Paris is battling with Los Angeles for the right to succeed 2020 hosts Tokyo and stage the Games in seven years' time.

The final vote to decide the 2024 hosts is scheduled to take place during the 131st IOC session in Lima on September 13.

The Elysee spokesman said it was probable that Macron would "participate actively at the presentation" which will last 45 minutes behind closed doors.

"It's a crucial stage because this strategic presentation will lead to the final decision in Lima. For all this it was very important that the president could go himself to Lausanne," the spokesman added.

The IOC members are expected to vote on Tuesday on a recommendation from the IOC Executive Committee for a double allocation of the Games for 2024 and 2028.

Immediately after his election in May Macron promised full and enthusiastic support for Paris' bid, and has said he will travel to Lima for the September vote.
