A new Olympic golf champion will be crowned on Sunday, but it could be the same old story in the 100 metres in Rio as Usain Bolt eyes another gold

Usain Bolt will be expected to prove he is still the fastest man on the planet by winning the 100 metres, and there will be a new Olympic golf champion for the first time in 112 years in Rio on Sunday.

Legendary Jamaican Bolt is aiming to become the first man to win three consecutive Olympic 100m titles and keep his quest for an unprecedented triple triple alive.

Justin Rose takes a one-shot lead into the final round of the men's golf competition, while fellow Brit Andy Murray will face Juan Martin del Potro in the men's singles final on day nine

SPRINT KING BOLT TO RETAIN CROWN?

Bolt described his run in the heats on Friday as "sluggish', but the sprint king has delivered when it matters time and time again.

American Justin Gatlin will once again attempt to dethrone Bolt in the blue riband event of the Games, while Yohan Blake will be eyeing another medal after taking silver in the London 2012 100m final.

But all eyes will be on Bolt, who gave a frank assessment of his start to the Rio Games.

"It wasn't the best start. I felt kind of slow. I'm not used to running this early at any championship. Hopefully tomorrow I'll come out and I'll feel much better, much smoother." said the 29-year-old, competing in his last Olympics.

Kirani James will seek to defend his 400m title before the 100m showdown, while there is also the women's marathon and women's triple jump final to look forward to.

ROSE BLOOMING, BUT ALL TO PLAY FOR

Englishman Rose and Henrik Stenson could be set for a classic showdown in the final round of the men's golf competition.

Much has been made of whether there should be a place for golf on the Olympic schedule after the sport made a long-awaited return in Brazil, with several high-profile players absent citing concerns over the Zika virus.

But the players who did opt to enter have served up a treat, with 2013 U.S. Open champion Rose conjuring up the first ever Olympic hole in one in his first round and taking over from Marcus Fraser as leader on Saturday.

Swede Stenson is ominously poised just a shot off the lead, a month after winning his first major at Royal Troon, while Australian Fraser is three shots off the pace.

MURRAY ON BRINK OF MAKING HISTORY AGAIN

Murray won Wimbledon for a second time last month and the world number two will become the first man to win two Olympic singles titles if he beats Argentine Del Potro.

Brit Murray, who also had the honour of carrying the flag for Team GB, has won his last 17 singles matches and will be favourite to beat Del Potro, who almost retired due to a wrist injury but will win at least silver in Rio after claiming a thrilling semi-final victory against Rafael Nadal.

Venus Williams, who won two golds at the Sydney Games 16 years ago, will team up with Rajeev Ram to face Bethanie Mattek Sands and Jack Sock in an all-United States mixed doubles final.

Martina Hingis is also proving age is no barrier and the Swiss will combine with Timea Bacsinszky to take on Russia's Elena Vesnina and Ekaterina Makarova in the women's doubles final on the last day of tennis competition.

BILES COULD HIT NEW HEIGHTS IN VAULT

The incredible Simone Biles is favourite to win a third gold medal of the Games when she competes in the women's vault final at the Rio Olympic Arena.

Kenzo Shirai will take some beating in the men's floor exercise final, while Max Whitlock and Louis Smith are well fancied to add more medals for Team GB in the men's pommel horse

The women's uneven bars final will also be staged on what promises to be another tense day of competition.
