FERREIRA DOS SANTOS DELIVERS
Teenager Ferreira dos Santos took up athletics just two years ago, but he now has a Paralympics gold medal and world record.
The 19-year-old took out the men's 100-metre T45/46/47 final in a world-record time of 10.57 seconds.
He stunningly surged away from Poland's Michal Derus (10.79secs) and fellow Brazilian Yohansson Nascimento (10.79secs).
Ferreira dos Santos had set the world record in the semi-finals a day earlier, but smashed that mark by 0.1secs.
VERVOORT MOVES TO CLARIFY REPORTS
Vervoort held a news conference in Rio on Sunday to clarify reports regarding her contemplation of euthanasia.
Vervoort, who suffers from an incurable and degenerative spinal condition, earned a silver medal in the women's T52 400m final at the Paralympics on Saturday, having finished first and second in the respective 100m and 200m races at London 2012.
The 37-year-old has been the focus of much attention, after it was reported she intends to end her life following the Rio Games, with euthanasia legalised in Belgium.
"When the moment comes that I have more bad days than good days, then I have my euthanasia papers. But the time is not there yet," she said.
QUOTES OF THE DAY
"They are 15 years old and they come up above my belly button. They are blue. Well, at least they started blue. I'm not sure there is a colour to them any more," - Australian Kurt Fearnley, who won bronze in the men's 5000m T54, on his lucky underwear.
"I enjoy every little moment. Money and materialism mean nothing, but give me a big, real mean hug and I'm the richest person in the world," - Vervoort opened up at a news conference.
"When the race ends I think about everything that happened in my life: where I come from and where I am today," - Ferreira dos Santos reflected after his gold.
