Ghanaian basketball star signs with Dallas Mavericks

According to ESPN’s Marc Stein, Bentil will sign a 10-day contract a long with guard Quinn Cook.

The former Providence star forward failed to lock down a place with the Boston Celtics after being drafted 51st in the draft.

Rejecting a deal to join the Celtics D-League side, Bentil joined the Fort Wayne Mad Ants instead, the D-League affiliate of the Indiana Pacers.

He led the Mad Ants to a blowout victory in his debut, picking up 27 points and 10 rebounds in 45 minutes before he departed for China as an injury replacement on the roster of the Xinjiang Flying Tigers.

Coming off the bench in his debut for the Flying Tigers, Bentil scored 28 points, hitting 4-5 from beyond the arc while grabbing three rebounds and blocking a shot in the process.

He appeared in 11 games for the Flying Tigers before making his return to the Mad Ants.

Bentil is looking to grab his opportunity with the Dallas Mavericks with both hands following his brief spell with the Celtics.

The 21-year-old is the first Ghanaian-born player to be drafted by an NBA team.

Bentil will wear No. 42 for the Mavericks.
