Kell Brook: Golovkin fight biggest in world boxing

Many regard Kell Brook as the underdog versus Gennady Golovkin due to the step up in weight, but the Englishman played down those fears.

Kell Brook has labelled his mouth-watering bout with Gennady Golovkin as "the biggest fight in world boxing" and insists he will not be hindered by the step up in weight.

Boxing fans were caught off guard last month when it was announced that Brook will take on the unbeaten Kazakh, considered by many as boxing's pound-for-pound king, at London's O2 Arena in September – tickets for which sold out in just 11 minutes.

The IBF world welterweight champion is considered the underdog as he is going up two weight divisions to fight Golovkin, who will put his WBA, WBC, IBF and IBO middleweight world titles on the line.

Brook explained that he took the match-up as no high-calibre welterweight was willing to face him and says he has been training like a "wild horse" in preparation.

"It's the biggest fight in world boxing. It's a fight that makes me so excited, I'm the best welterweight on the planet and nobody wants to fight me, it’s the same with GGG [Golovkin]," he said at a news conference on Monday.

"We're bringing up speed, but we're also getting the right numbers with power at the new weight. I'm going to be so sharp, so alive on the night.

"Nobody's ever got the best out of me, I want to test myself and I know that we'll see the best in me. I'm excited myself to see what I can do. I always seem to do enough, find a way to win, and it'll be the same. There'll be massive drama.

"People go on about weight, Mike Tyson wasn't the biggest heavyweight and he was an animal. 160 [pounds] is my natural weight, it'll be the best of me. I'm very healthy, well hydrated, I'm training like a wild horse.

"I want to go down, like my hero Sugar Ray Robinson, in history."

Golovkin has proved the undisputed king of the middleweight division, winning each of his 35 professional fights, 32 via knockout.

Brook will have to contend with his opponent's ferocious power, but also has an intimidating record having earned 25 knockouts from 36 victories.
