Weigh-in shootings force WBO fight cancellation

Boxing: Saturday's WBO European lightweight fight between Jamie Kavanagh and Antonio Joao Bento has been cancelled after a shooting at the weigh-in.

One man died and two others were injured in a shooting at the weigh-in for Saturday's WBO European lightweight bout in Dublin, police have confirmed.

The incident occurred at the Regency Hotel on Friday during the build-up to the fight between Jamie Kavanagh and Antonio Joao Bento, which has now been cancelled.

"Emergency services responding to reports of a shooting discovered three men, all in their 20s or 30', injured at the scene," a Garda statement read.

"One of these men was subsequently pronounced dead. Two others were removed to The Mater and Beaumont hospitals with possible gunshot wounds."

Another fight between Gary Corcoran and Danny Butler, which was also scheduled to take place at Ireland's National Arena, will not go ahead.
