Exactly 25 years ago Ghana’s Ike ‘Bazooka’ Quartey knocked out his Puerto Rican opponent Jose Lugo in a welterweight contest staged in France.

Quartey his stopped stopped his opponent after just some few seconds into the very first round.

The fight was Ike Quartey’s 20th professional fight after turning pro in 1988.

Two years after beating Lugo, the Ghanaian was handed his first world title shot and he surprised the world by dethroning then champion Crisanto Espana.

Quartey stopped Esapana in round 11 to win the WBA World welterweight belt.
