Medeama leave it late to clinch win against TP Mazembe

Simply fantastic, absolutely incredible and an unbelievable proof of determination. What was going for a pathetic ending after succumbing a two goal lead to draw turned out to have sensational winner at the very dearth of the game.

Akwasi Donsu, the midfielder who won the MVP of last season's FA Cup scored a wonderful late goal to grab the winner for Medeama in their 3-2 win over T.P. Mazembe. Donsu chased after a ball bound to be covered by goalkeeper Silvain Gbohouo to round the Ivorian goalie before slotting home the ball to set the Sekondi stadium in cacophonous ecstasy.

The fans were dreading a big disappointment in the waiting after watching their team surrender two goals for Mazembe to comeback and fluff chances when the game was in their bossom to wrap it up. The goal came out of nothing but the glory goes to Akwasi Donsu, the player that wears the boots of Black Stars midfielder, Emmanuel Agyemang Badu, as his progeny to show such relentlessness and great pursuit in the obvious face of a giving up.

Enoch Attah Adjei had opened the scoring in the 31st minute with a free kick, although with aide of terrible goalkeeping from Gbohouo. Attah Adjei was permitted by his expert teammate Donsu to take the free kick from 25 yards. Attah Adjei curled the ball well but goalie Gbouhou who dived to punch the ball failed to get a good touch for the ball to slip past him into the net.

It was huge wonder how the Ivorian national goalie allowed such ball to beat when he was under no pressure from an opponent and having seen the ball coming, he dived with both fists ready to punch the ball but he conceded a goal out of that. Medeama doubled the lead in the 58th minute through a beautifully converted penalty kick from left back Moses Sarpong.

Issama Mpeko handled a ball from Attah Adjei after missing a header out from Samuel Adade's cross. Sarpong elected himself and scored confidently, outwitting Gbohouo to the wrong direction. He celebrated with a four times summersaulting. The commanding two goal lead and the joyous second goal had barely exhausted it celebration when Jonathan Bolinga headed in a second attempt from a free kick to narrow the lead. It was a poor marking by Medeama. Coach Hubert Velud brought on a Ghanaian for his fellow to keep the increasing pressure on Medeama. Solomon Asante on for Daniel Nii Adjei.

The former went on to play a major part in the equalizer for the DR Congo side. Asante was put through on the right wing, he held up play and passed to Mpeko to send a cross which was headed home at the far post by Rainford Kalaba in the 71st minute. The build up to the goal from Mazembe was matured and good. They passed the ball and followed it up with calculated movement.

The goal was made easy by the build up as the Zambian winger, short and tiny as he is, scored from an unmarked position. So the game after rigorous exchanges between both sides for a winner all hit a snag. But Medeama were biting their fingers from a double opportunities the the opening minutes of the second half when Attah Adjei and five goals scorer of the team, Abass Mohammed squandered close range chances.

Where hope would come from was clearly unknown and even unpredictable judging by the organization from Mazembe and mistake dominated approach from Medeama. But light was at the end of the tunnel, at the very closing seconds of the additional four minutes. There came that intelligent move and goal from Akwasi Donsu to potentially send Medeama into the semi finals stage in their maiden participation at the group stage of the CAF Confederation Cup.
