Ghana winger happy at Malaga but unsure of summer move

Ghana international Christian Atsu says that he would like to extend his enjoyable deal at Malaga ahead of next season but admits that the decision is out of his hands.

The 24-year-old on-loan Chelsea midfielder joined the Blues in the summer of 2013 as a prospect for the future after impressing the Blues scouters at FC Porto.

The winger continued that development with an impressive loan spell at Vitesse Arnhem during the 2013-2014 campaign.

However, his evolution since suffered a setback after two unsuccessful spells at Everton and Bournemouth during the last campaign and the first part of this season respectively. The Blues recalled him from the Cherries in January to send him to Malaga until the end of the season in order to resurrect his career.

Atsu has since made 10 appearances in La Liga, scoring one goal and finally showing glimpses of his talent despite being mostly used as a sub.

AS recently claimed that those cameo appearances have been enough to convince Malaga manager Javi Gracia to keep him at the Rosaleda stadium next season, being convinced that after his adaptation to Spain the Chelsea loanee will be ready to prove his real worth next campaign.

"The decision [on whether I stay at Malaga or go back to Chelsea] does not depend on me, so I have to wait. I have not received any offers from Malaga yet. I have a contract with Chelsea but I think everything is possible in football. However, I am aware that is not my decision."

Atsu said to Marca. "I am very happy here because I'm living a very positive experience. The truth is that I realised very quickly that the decision to come here was right. Here the atmosphere is perfect for a footballer."

The Chelsea loanee suggests that he would like to remain in La Liga as he has finally found at Malaga what he missed both at Everton and Bournemouth.

"At Bournemouth, I lived the worst stage of my career," the winger recalled. "During the last seasons I could not find stability. I was disappointed with myself for a long time. In Malaga I have found the balance that I was lacking. Now I am happy with how these months have gone after a really tough start to the season [at Bournemouth]."

"Malaga is a great place. Here I have everything to succeed and grow as a player. I really like the Spanish league because its style helps me be to be a better player. I think I could show much more here. The club is good, fans encourage you and my teammates are great... Everything influence for a player to grow and improve."
