Rafael Benitez is closing in on the loan signing of Chelsea winger Christian Atsu as he looks to make Newcastle United 's 12th addition of the summer.

Atsu joined the Blues in a £3.5million switch from Porto in September 2013 but is yet to make a senior appearance for the club and has been loaned out to Vitesse Arnhem , Everton , Bournemouth and Malaga since his arrival.

The wideman struggled with injuries and fitness after joining the Cherries on a season loan last summer but Chelsea ended his stay in January after just two EFL Cup appearances before sending him to Spain.
