Five Egyptian players to watch against Black Stars

We look at five Egyptians who can cause havoc to the Black Stars' dream of qualifying for the 2018 World Cup.

Mohamed Salah is slayin'  it on European turf with his superior skills in his Roma outfit, garnering more proud Egyptian fans to the top-notch Italian club.

Yet, a lot of us know nothing about other Egyptians gaining momentum in Europe and America and who can cause havoc to the Black Stars' dream of qualifying for the 2018 World Cup.

Mohamed Elneny

The Arsenal man is a ball-playing box-to-box midfielder. He is often deployed in a deeper position because of his reliable distribution under pressure and is also much-improved recently switching the play with long-range passes.  One of his key skills continues to be his stamina and overall fitness levels. He covers a lot of ground every match and finishes games strongly. The Egyptian does have an attacking appetite and uses his engine to anticipate loose balls on the edge of the box and test the keeper from distance. He has developed a reputation in recent seasons for accurate and powerful strikes from 20-30-yards-out.

Mahmoud "Trezeguet" Hassan

A number of European clubs had their eyes on Al Ahly’s attacking midfielder, who eventually went on a one-year loan deal to the Belgian RSC Anderlecht, with a possibility of getting signed after the term was up. Even though he only played 107 minutes since his relocation to Brussels, a lot is waiting for "Trezeguet", seeing as the club showed interest in signing the player for four years. He has played ten games for the Pharoahs, banging in two goals.

Amr Warda

The 23-year-old is playing in the Super League in Greece for Panetolikos F.C. and was linked to Greek giants Olympiakos, PAOK and Panathinaikos last year, after his impressive performance with his current club. Before leaving Egyptian soil, he played one match with Al Ahly, got loaned to Ittihad of Alexandria, then signed a three-year contract on a free transfer to Panetolikos. Warda received an offer to move to the Seria A to play for Sampdoria. He's been capped for times with the Egyptian national team

Amro Tarek

An Egyptian-American left-back who joined a few clubs around the world, three of which were in Egypt. Tarek currently plays for the MLS side, Colombus Crew on loan from Real Betis in Spain. The 23-year-old started his career after moving from his birthplace, Los Angeles, to Egypt’s Assiyut, where he started playing for Asmant Assiyut when he was only seven years old. Tarek then joined two clubs in Germany before returning to Egypt to play for El Gouna in the Egyptian Premier League. Egyptians started to notice Tarek only when Real Betis started to talk about the young player and managed to get him to Spain to sign a contract.

Sam Morsy

This gifted British-Egyptian currently plays for Wigan Athletic, the club where retired football striker, Amr Zaki, used to play in the English Premier League. Morsy’s football career started with Wolverhampton Wanderers and stayed there till he was 16, but he wasn’t offered a professional contract. Right after, he went to Port Value where he was given a second chance to prove himself. And that he definitely did, as he was spotted by Chesterfield to complete his big move, which has been the highlight of his career so far. With Chesterfield he won the club’s Player of the Year Award in 2014 in his first season, in addition to winning the League Two title.
