The tale of a beautiful lady who can’t leave an abusive boyfriend

Avram Grant is not taking the Black Stars job as serious as he should, and Ghana are also not ready to get rid of him. This is an abusive relationship from where the football fans are looking.

Honestly, she knows it is. But the fear of the unknown that awaits is what causes trembling in her mind.

She is beautiful. And other gentlemen are willing to treat her with every bit of the respect she utterly deserves.

But she wails in agony. Just because she fears the unknown.

For him, it is a matter of feeling really comfortable where he is. He feels his abysmally mediocre feats are the best thing to have ever happened in the lady’s life.

No real commitment. No zeal. No efforts. Because quite frankly, he has the lady all wrapped around his fingers.

She can’t leave.

Ghana’s past experience prior to Avram Grant’s appointment was not one to write home about.

A country that once loved its national team football was divided in opinions. A poor show at the 2014 FIFA World Cup tournament coupled with all the money drama at the team’s camp left mother Ghana in ridicule. The whole world was watching.

Ghana was in pain.

Avram Grant coming in with a coaching role at English Premier League club Chelsea on his CV felt a wee bit above his role in Ghana from the onset.

The signs were stated obviously in his actions. But Ghana looked the other side.

A few months into his job and the Black Stars saw themselves at the final of the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations. Penalties didn’t go Ghana’s way so Cote d’Ivoire were crowned champions.

For the people who had monitored football in the country for so long, this was nothing to write home about. And the majority of football fans in the country agreed that it was a failure.

You either win it, or nothing else when it comes to the Africa Cup of Nations. Ghana is a reputable enough football nation in Africa. Getting to the final is no achievement anymore. Winning the tournament is.

Nobody remembers that team that made it to the final except the team that beat you to winning that title. For the AFCON 2015, fans will remember Gervinho’s look away during the shootout that they will of Avram Grant’s team.

This is a different story in the Israeli's book. He was the Messiah Isaiah spoke about to take Ghana out of football bondage. The one chapter writers of the bible forgot to add, possibly.

But he is here. So all hail Avram ‘The Messiah’ Grant. The one man who took Ghana to the AFCON final in his first major tournament with country. Non-blessed is thou who speaketh against him.

This is how the Black Stars coach saw himself. And the later ‘bullshit’ comments when he decided to give the entire nation tutorials on how to watch football will prove this.

Avram Grant felt he needed a holiday after the tournament in Equatorial Guinea. And he applied and left.

The former Chelsea boss has felt the need for a holiday when there is no international football ever since and has actually gained his wishes. Just because he could.

When people started talking about how the Black Stars coach had stayed in Ghana for less than 15% for the duration of his first year in charge, Grant, and his team served us with the ‘player monitoring’ dish. Just because we had to accept it.

Fast forward to a couple of months to the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations in Gabon and Grant was seen discussing topics he loves on UK’s Sky Sports News.

This was a day after the Africa Cup of Nations draw was held in Gabon.

A time where Ghana’s form is nothing compared to the average past. A moment in which the Black Stars of Ghana had fallen their lowest (45th) in the FIFA Ranking for the year 2016.

But no! Grant didn’t care.

The Black Stars coach didn’t care that his team had gone four games without a win. Not four games where the tactics and fluidity in the team had been on point that fans forgot they were watching a drawn game.

No. Draws that could bore you to death.

All that didn’t matter to Grant. After all, he will come back with the excuse of monitoring players only to pick out the same old selection template when the next Black Stars match is due.

So one would ask, what if we just take the bold decision and get rid of this coach who is just sitting abroad for a Ghanaian paycheck.

Then the answer of how the last one did us bad comes as the excuse. Ain’t they all the same? What if the next one is worse than the current? Maybe Avram Grant will come good in the next AFCON tournament.

So quietly in our small corners, we wail. We sob. We have the sleepless nights over the poor state the Black Stars are in. And we cry.

The Ghana Football Association is in charge of handling issues involving the Black Stars coaching job. Maybe they are satisfied with what their current manager is doing. But they shouldn’t.

They should make bold decisions in putting things in their right places without fear of what is to come.

As it stands, the Black Stars is just a beautiful lady who can’t leave an abusive boyfriend in coach Avram Grant.

This is so unfair to the people who love football in Ghana.
