Chelsea's thanksgiving service in Ghana is the joke of the century

This ridiculous service is to thank God after Chelsea Football club of London was crowned Champions for the sixth time in their history in the English Premier League. My immediate reaction when I first saw the artwork was that, this can’t be true but my worst fear was confirmed.

This service is a complete joke. Let me ask Rev. Azigiza and the funny guys who will be in attendance how Chelsea’s success will benefit their lives and Ghana by extension?  My greatest worry is why a church in Ghana is involved in something like this, what is the motivation behind this service? One may ask.

The reason why I am outraged about this service is this, the Black Starlets are in Gabon raising the flag of Ghana high. They have qualified to the finals of the Africa U17 championship and also qualified to play in the World Cup, Rev. Azigiza and his likes are not thinking about praying to God to grant them victory not to talk about a thanksgiving service.

I don’t understand why we hate ourselves this much because if these young boys are successful, their lives will change forever. This is real impact. I can give you examples of how people have moved from grass to grace through our football. Osei Kuffour, Micheal Essien and Asamoah Gyan just to mention a few.

A spirited defense a Chelsea supporter (Eli Kondoh) put forth is that this service is a form of evangelism, but who said the fanatics Azigiza is inviting are not Christians already. The second point he made which I have heard before is the freedom of association argument and said if the standard of the local league is low can I blame him?

However what they forget is that this same freedom comes with responsibilities. I want to ask the Chelsea supporters who are Rice framers and will be attending this service to tell me why I should buy their rice and not a perfume rice from Thailand, and also the carpenters why I should buy a bed from them and not the cheap once at Melcom? You know why I will buy a bed from the Ghanaian carpenter that decision is to empower the Ghanaian carpenter to create employment and not create jobs for some guy in China.

The sad part in all of these is that Rev. Azigiza has in time past benefited from our football as presenter of GFA TV.

Talking about standard and going by their logic should we also match every sector of this country to the British standard, from Medicine, Journalism, church to Leadership of this Country?

God bless our homeland Ghana and make us great and strong.
