Black Stars can still qualify for Russia 2018 and here is why

Black Stars still have a chance of qualifying for Russia 2018.

Hosts Uganda and the Black Stars of Ghana had to settle for a goalless draw in their 2018 World Cup qualifier at the Mandela National Stadium in Namboole on Saturday, a result which takes their qualification hopes out of their hands.

The draw virtually ends Ghana's hopes of reaching Russia, although Uganda will hope that Congo Brazzaville can defeat Egypt on Sunday.

However, there is still a chance of qualifying for Russia 2018.

The first step is a hope for Congo to beat Egypt tomorrow in Alexandria. If wishes are translated into reality, Egypt would end up with 9 points, Uganda with 8 points, Ghana also with 6 points and Congo with 4 points.

The next step would be the need for a win over Egypt. An emphatic win would stimulate the “head-to-head’ rule, and consequently secure a place for them in the Russia 2018 tournament. Ghana previously lost by two goals to Egypt in the first encounter.

Now, if the Black Stars secure that win, whilst Congo do Ghana a favour by beating Uganda in Brazzaville, Ghana would end up with 9 points, Egypt, also with 9 points, Uganda with 8 points and Congo with 7 points.
