Gyan's $62,000 airfare money won't be refunded by government- Sports Minister

Isaac Asiamah has disclosed that government will not refund the amount Asamoah Gyan spent on airfares to charter a flight for the Black Stars from Brazzaville to Accra.

Ghana defeated their Congolese counterparts in the reverse fixture of their 2017 FIFA World Cup qualifiers in Brazzaville and after the game the ministry failed to provide a chartered flight for the team as earlier promised.

Asamoah Gyan, came to save the situation by arranging for a chartered flight for his team mates who needed to arrive at their various clubs on time after th international break.

But speaking at the Public Accounts Committee on Tuesday, Asiamah said Gyan rescued the team at his own expense.

“For us a Ministry, we have our arrangements, that was what was in place, there was nothing [like] we reneged our duty or on our obligation, because everything was in place. So if the captain decides to pay that from his own pocket that is fine…we as a ministry we won’t complain.

“But we never breached our arrangement because we had our own agreement with the GFA so he did it at his own cost,” Asiamah told the committee.

Ghana occupy the 3rd position of group E with five points while Egypt leads with nine points and Uganda are 2nd with 7 points, with Congo languishing at the bottom with jut a point.
