The Black Stars once again failed to end Ghana’s trophy drought, having last won the coveted gold in 1982.

After a largely uninspiring outing at this year’s tournament in Gabon, the Black Stars finished fourth – losing in the semi-finals and 3rd/4th place matches to Cameroon and Burkina Faso respectively.

Coach Avram Grant has come in for criticism from some quarters for failing to put up a team capable of winning the trophy.

The former Chelsea boss has been accused to giving call-ups to players based on reputation instead of performance.

And Dr. Tamakloe believes Grant “is not the type of coach that Ghana needs”.

He told Joy Sports: "Avram Grant is not the type of coach that Ghana needs at this time. I don’t know if it is laziness but he doesn’t have the kind of life you see in coaches throughout the tournament.

"He is always outside the country and hardly knows the boys he selects. First thing I will do is to change the coach before I look at the players. And the new coach takes time to know the players.

"If the FA has influence in selecting players then I will get worried, for now I don’t have evidence, but if they do influence the that is bad.’’

Ghana will now have to wait until 2017 to attempt to win the Africa Cup of Nations, having missed out since 1982.
