4 times Asamoah Gyan was an entertainer than a footballer

We look at certain instances the Black Stars captain entertained for reasons outside his football prowess.

The striker will definitely forever be remembered for his impeccable goal scoring abilities as he has scored 51 goals for the Ghana national team. That will definitely not be the only thing which will stay in the minds of the Ghanaian public when his name is mentioned.

The Kayserispor striker walked away from a contract which saw him be one of the highest paid footballers with Shangai SIPG.

The contract saw him play a year characterized by injuries in the first season with Shangai SIPG and the following year had him play for Dubai-based club Al Ahli.

Money can do a number of things for an individual and Asamoah Gyan coming across lots of it has made him do quite a number of things which has taken Ghana by storm.

We just going to zero down to four instances in the Gyan’s illustrious career which has suggested: “Baby Jet” (as he is popularly known) been more of an entertainer than that portray that of his craft.

Gyan and Castro's music collaborations

Asamoah Gyan has the passion for music and dancing. Gyan is seen as one entertainer in the camp of the Black Stars. That has transcended into the Ghana showbiz as he has been on the records of hit tracks with singer Theophilus Tagoe also known as Castro.

In the year 2010, Castro featured Asamoah Gyan on hit song African Girls. The song was generally by the Ghanaian public with a lot of razzmatazz as “Baby Jet” did display a few of his dance moves in the music video. This served a great build up to the 2010 world cup in which Asamoah Gyan loved to display a few steps after every goal scored.

Asamoah Gyan scored three times and celebrated three times in the 2010 World Cup. He also went on to record two tracks with Castro which was “Do the Dance” released in 2010 right after the World Cup and “Odo Pa” released in 2013 which also had Kofi Kinaata. The latter would go on win songwriter of the year for two consecutive years in 2016 and 2017 at the Ghana Music Awards. The song “Odo Pa” itself won Highlife song of the year in 2014.

ASA Band

In 2015, Asamoah Gyan launched a band with a lot of plush and elegance at the State Banquet Hall which attracted a number of personalities. Ex-President John Agyekum Kufuor was present at the launch and the band made sales of a debut album known as “Fly Away”.  From then the band has performed at various occasions the most recent was at the Gold Coast Bar and Grill at Airport City in Accra.

That was on the 16th of June 2017 when Asamoah Gyan sang with the band to celebrate his landmark achievement of scoring 50 goals. Asamoah Gyan has proclaimed not to continue mainstream music as his Theophilus Tagoe Castro who disappeared on the 6th of July, 2014 ushered him into music. We will then catch the captain perform with his band at certain occasions and that in itself will be entertaining enough.

Basilica D Baby Jet

In 2015, Asamoah Gyan purchased a $3 million mansion off the Kasoa Road. He did christen it Basilica D Baby Jet. What was interesting was Asamoah Gyan officially threw a party to outdoor and has the then flag bearer of the New Patriotic Party Nana Akuffo-Addo attend the event.  Nana Akuffo-Addo is now the President the Ghana and having him attend such an event shows how entertaining and high profile Asamoah Gyan has set himself in Ghana. He then recorded a video to as took the public on a tour of his expensive home.

Goal Celebrations

Asamoah Gyan is indeed a great leader in the Black Stars set up but his leadership is mostly portrayed in his goal celebrations. In the 2010 World Cup “Baby Jet did celebrate three times as he scored three times. The most memorable team celebration should be that of the one that came after Asamoah Gyan’s Goal against Germany in the 2014 World Cup against Brazil. It was to be the only time one was to score a 2nd goal past eventual champions. Asamoah Gyan was able to lead the Stars to an interesting celebration which should sink into the memories of Ghanaians
